Natural Flu Fighter

Elderberry a Natural Flu Fighter

I have a question for you.  If you could provide your family with a natural alternative to help keep you and them healthy throughout the Influenza season, would you want to hear more?  If you should contract the virus, this remedy could significantly lessen the healing time from 5 days to 2 days. Would you be interested in hearing more?

I thought you would!

Well, this fantastic natural alternative is elderberries.  My family and I have been using elderberries for many years to treat viral infections and increase our immunity.  We love this herb, and I want to tell you all about it.

Elder Plant Description

Depending on how you view it, the elder is a large shrub or small tree.  This herb has a great thriving ability.  It can grow up to 30 feet tall.  Elder is native to Europe, Africa, and some parts of Asia.  It has become widespread in the United States despite its origination.  Its flowers are white, and its berries start green and turn black when ripe.

Plant Parts for Healing

Both the berries and flowers make natural medicine.  Cooking the berries is a must for safety reasons.  Raw berries contain a chemical similar to cyanide.

Research and Medical Uses

Elderberry studies have proven that it is effective in treating viral infections, including influenza.  A 2004 study conducted by Z Zakay-Rones, E Thom, T Wollan, and J Wadstein concluded that the use of elderberry extracts relieved flu symptoms four days earlier in participants given elderberry extract to those given a placebo.  Another study conducted six years later by Christian Krawitz, Mobarak Abu Mraheil, Michael Stein, Can Imirzalioglu, Eugen Domann, Stephan Pleschka, and Torsten Hain corroborated the 2004 study’s results.  Also, they found that elderberries were also impactful against human respiratory bacterial pathogens and influenza A and B viruses.  Just this past year, in 2019, Jessie Hawkins, Colby Baker, Lindsey Cherry, Elizabeth Dunne found after conducting their study, “Supplementation with elderberry was found to substantially reduce upper respiratory symptoms.” The study further concluded, “These findings present an alternative to antibiotic misuse for upper respiratory symptoms due to viral infections, and a potentially safer alternative to prescription drugs for routine cases of the common cold and influenza.”

There you have it, 16 years worth of study related proof that there is indeed a natural alternative to help keep you and your family healthy throughout the Influenza season.  Furthermore, should you contract the virus, Elderberry extracts could significantly lessen the healing time from 5 days to 2 days.

Dosing Elderberry Extracts

Now that you know elderberry extracts work let’s talk about how to take them.

DO NOT give elderberry or any product containing elder to children without first talking to their pediatrician.  To take this even further, consult with your doctors before including herbal remedies into your treatment plan.

These instructions are suggestive as more or less can also be useful.

Adult dose:

Elderberry syrup:    4TBSP a day for three days to treat cold and flu

Tea: Drink 4 to 5 grams of elderberry infused tea; elderflowers may also be included, three times a day.  Steep the tea for 10 to 15 mins to get the best extraction.

Precautions when taking Elderberry Extracts

People taking the following medications should consult their physician before taking elderberry:

  • Diuretics
  • Diabetes Medications

Coffee Benefits for Great Skin Care

Coffee to Wake Up Your Skin

goblet-of-coffee-1567990

If you are anything like me, you are in LOVE with coffee.  Coffee is the main staple of my day.  I drink it ritually every morning.   I also use it to give my skin an extra health kick.  Yes, I did say I use it on my skin.

Caffeine in skincare products is not a new idea.  Cosmetic Companies have been using it for a very long time.  However, most people are unaware of just how wonderful caffeine is for the health of their skin.    Incorporating caffeine into your skincare routine can produce some awesome benefits, such as even-toned and smooth skin.  Who does not want that?

Coffee protects the skin.

Some of the things I hear people complain about when they examine their skin are the appearance of wrinkles, sun spots, or loss of elasticity.  Unwanted changes to the skin, such as these, are caused by free radicals, which cause premature skin aging.  Coffee is one of the best defenses against free radicals because of the antioxidants contained in it.  Antioxidants will attach free radicals and eliminate them from the skin.  This alone will improve the overall look of the skin. So if you are noticing some maturity of the skin, fight back with some sweet-smelling coffee.

Coffee Reduces swelling and puffiness.

When caffeine is applied topically to the skin, wondrous things can happen.  Caffeine constricts blood vessels and helps to reduce swelling and puffiness.  Thus, it is recommended to use eye creams that list caffeine as an active ingredient because of this great effect.

Coffee combats those under eye dark circles.

I must begin this section with some hard facts.  Caffeine cannot cure hereditary dark circles.  Under-eye dark circles resulting from dehydration, allergies, and lack of sleep can be affected by caffeine’s anti-inflammatory properties.  Caffeine reduces that accumulation of blood under the eye, which contributes to dark shadows.  If you have an eye cream created to erase dark circles, it is my opinion that this product must contain caffeine effectively.

Coffee helps to reduce cellulite.

Yes, I said it!  Coffee helps reduce cellulite.  Caffeine can dehydrate fatty cells.  The dehydration results in water disappearing from the surface of your skin, which can minimize cellulite’s appearance and provide you with smoother skin.

Research at the University of Sao Paulo has proven that the application of skin cream containing caffeine reduced the size of cellulite fat cells by 17%. So slather that cream, butter, and scrubs on to your skin and bring back the skin of your youth.

Kayorcee Creations carry a variety of products that has caffeine as an active ingredient.  You can find Coffee Scrubs, Under Eye Cream, Coffee Butter, and Exfoliating soaps with coffee grounds in our web-store.
